"Our Country And Our Church" “…you will never know how much it has cost my generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it.” – John Adams. “What we obtain too cheaply, we esteem too lightly; it is dearness only that gives everything its value.” – Thomas Payne, 1776. Our forefathers came to start and perpetuate this great independent country, desiring for their families something much better than the old. Driven by spiritual desires and aspirations to have a place where they were independent and free from the control of other kings and countries. They worked, gave, and sacrificed that we could have this country. The things that were true in the birthing of our Country are also true with the birthing of our Church. There were people under the leadership of the Holy Spirit who were tried of the old associational connection, control and corruption. They desired to start what was (and still is) Rogersville’s only Independent Baptist Church. Today we need reminding that what we have as a Church did not come cheap; it had a price that some sacrificed to pay. We honor them and purpose to continue to make good use of their sacrifice. RBT celebrates 32 years of ministry and is attempting great things for and expecting great things from God! God has done great things and will do great things yet ahead. “Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.” Psalm 115:1. “…as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:31 - Pastor Barry Rackley www.rbtonline.org 2008
