Pastor’s Pen Preparing to go to God’s House (Part 1) Eccles. 5:1 “Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear….” *Worship is a priority and requires preparation. *Most church services are won or lost due to what goes on in and by the people during the week, not by what goes on in the service. The services basically reflect the condition of the people. If we knew what spiritual condition people come to church in, we would wonder how God ever bless or work. 1- Get a good night sleep on Saturday night. Rest is vital to having good attention. Whatever you stayed up or out late doing that is not spiritual, has a greater interest and priority than the Sunday services. When you come in dead and dragging, you have already gave something else your best that God deserves! 2- Do not feed and fill your mind on TV and or the Internet on Saturday night. You can’t go to bed with a carnal mind and expect to get up and go to church with a spiritual mind on Sunday morning. 3- Do some person soul searching, as to your intimacy with God. Don’t wait till you get to church to get right with God. Seek to remove all known hindrances to the working of the Spirit. Remember the Spirit of God always works through people. 5- Do not wait till Sunday morning to get things laid out and ready. The more you do before going to bed the less you have to do on Sunday morning. Resulting in fewer distractions from the worship service. 6- Do some mental preparation. Get your thoughts on church and God doing a work. Don’t talk about secular or carnal things, as this will pull your mind away from the spiritual. Your mental state before church normally carries over into the service. You cannot worship without the involvement of your mind. 7- Spend some time praying for your Sunday school teacher and Pastor, that God would give and direct them to get personal with your needs. 8- Pray for the choir and special music, as the music has a major impact on the service good or bad. 9- Read the Sunday school lesson or scripture and do any work required. 10- Avoid arguing and fussing with family. 11- Come to church with spiritual expectations, wanting God to work. - Pastor Barry Rackley www.rbtonline.org
