The Tongue: A Tool and Target No doubt the Devil hates what God is doing in and through RBT, and is making plans to attack. In my 26 years of ministry, all church trouble is fueled and made worse by the tongue. Gossip, slander, criticism, lying and evil speaking of one another are all forbidden in our Church Bylaws that all members have agreed to honor. Speaking sins are many times overlooked but are the most destructive. James 3:5-9 shows the true, natural tendencies of the tongue. The Devil, that old Serpent, uses His mouth and wants to use yours. "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers." Ephesians 4:29. Let us all be on guard and watch what we say, realizing that to talk about another member is to talk about yourself seeing that we are members one of another. Ask yourself the following before saying negative things about another. 1) Is my talk edifying to my listener? 2) What is my motive for saying it? 3) Have I prayed today for the person of my topic? 4) Would I be ashamed if the person I talked about heard my conversation? 5) Is what I'm saying any of my business? 6) Is what I'm saying helping or hurting the unity of RBT? "Death and life are in the power of the tongue" Proverbs 18:21. - Pastor Barry Rackley www.rbtonline.org
